Thai PM begins Paris visit with focus on energy, trade and cultural ties

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Paris for talks on energy security, investment, and cultural cooperation, including meetings with UNESCO and French President Emmanuel Macron.

PARIS – Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul arrived in Paris on Friday to begin an official visit focused on energy security, cultural promotion, and strengthening economic ties with France.

Upon his arrival at Paris-Orly International Airport, Anutin was scheduled to immediately begin his agenda by meeting with the director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) to discuss national energy security. He will also hold talks with the director-general of UNESCO to promote Thailand’s cultural role on the global stage, government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said. The prime minister is accompanied by a delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, and Culture Minister Sabida Thaiseth.



Over the weekend, Anutin’s itinerary includes presiding over a religious ceremony for the Thai community at a local temple, followed by meetings with Thai private sector representatives investing in France’s food processing, recycling, and restaurant industries. On Sunday, he will chair a meeting with Thai ambassadors and consuls-general stationed in Europe. Economic and bilateral talks will continue into next week. On Monday, the prime minister will meet with the French business confederation, MEDEF International, as well as leading French executives from the materials, medical equipment, and aerospace sectors. The visit will culminate on Monday evening with a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace to discuss bilateral cooperation. The Thai delegation is scheduled to conclude the trip and depart France on Tuesday, May 26. (TNA)
