MP Yodchai Phuengporn meets Pattaya railway officials to review crossing safety systems following the deadly Bangkok train-bus collision.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Yodchai Phuengporn, a Member of Parliament representing Pattaya and Nongprue in Chonburi, met with Pattaya Railway Station chief Surasit Sopha on May 19 to review railway crossing safety systems following the deadly train-bus collision in Bangkok that shocked the country. Yodchai said many residents in Pattaya had become increasingly concerned about railway crossing safety after the fatal accident, prompting him to seek assurances from local railway authorities regarding the condition and readiness of warning systems across the city.

According to railway officials, Pattaya Station oversees 12 railway crossings in its operational area, including five automatic crossings and seven manually operated crossings. Officials said all safety systems — including crossing barriers, warning lights, alarm systems, and CCTV cameras — were inspected and found to be functioning normally and fully operational. Railway authorities added that while routine inspections are already conducted regularly, checks have now been intensified following the recent tragedy to help prevent similar accidents. Yodchai thanked Pattaya railway officials and staff for proactively reviewing equipment and safety measures despite the Bangkok incident occurring outside their direct jurisdiction.
