PATTAYA, Thailand — Authorities are warning residents in Pattaya to stay vigilant after reports of scammers impersonating employees of Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), attempting to collect fake overdue electricity payments directly from households.
According to the alert, fraudsters have been going door-to-door claiming residents have outstanding electricity bills and urging immediate payment in cash or transfer to personal bank accounts.
Officials stressed that legitimate PEA staff do not collect cash payments at homes and never request transfers into personal accounts under any circumstances.
Residents in Pattaya and surrounding areas are urged not to trust unofficial invoices, documents, or urgent payment messages that cannot be verified through official channels.
Authorities advised the public to always confirm electricity billing information through official PEA contact points before making any payments.
For verification and reporting, residents can contact:
• Local Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) offices
• 1129 PEA Contact Center (24 hours)
To report scams:
• Online: www.thaipoliceonline.go.th
• Hotline: 1441 (24 hours)
Anyone suspicious of such activity is urged to report immediately to prevent further victims.
