Thaland officially enters the rainy season on May 15, bringing stronger monsoon conditions, thunderstorms, and flood concerns, while social media users react with jokes about the heat and worries over flooding in Pattaya.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand will officially enter the rainy season on May 15, as monsoon conditions strengthen across the country, bringing increased rainfall, thunderstorms, and the risk of localized flooding in several regions. Meteorological authorities said the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand has intensified, signaling the transition from the hot season into the annual rainy period.

The rainy season is expected to bring more frequent storms and heavy downpours, particularly during afternoons and evenings, while some areas may continue experiencing intense heat and humidity between rain showers. Social media users quickly reacted to the announcement, with many sharing mixed feelings about the changing conditions. One user joked that the weather became even hotter immediately after the rainy season was announced, while another described overnight storms that lasted for hours.

Residents in Pattaya also raised concerns about recurring flooding during heavy rain, warning that storms often lead to water accumulation and traffic disruption in parts of the city. Others reacted more positively, saying Pattaya was “ready” for the rainy season despite the challenges. Authorities are advising the public to monitor weather updates closely, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas, as heavy rain and runoff may disrupt travel and daily activities in the coming weeks.
