BANGKOK, Thailand – A major road collapse occurred on Saturday afternoon, May 9, outside Vichaivej Hospital near the Fai Chai Intersection on Charan Sanitwong Road in Bangkok, prompting emergency officials to seal off the area and manage heavy traffic congestion. The incident was reported at approximately 2:42 PM in front of the hospital in Bangkok Noi district, close to a station on Bangkok’s Blue Line MRT system. Witnesses described panic among motorists and pedestrians after a large section of the road suddenly cracked and caved in, forming a deep sinkhole in the middle of the roadway.



Authorities said the damaged area is located just before the Fai Chai Intersection, where the road surface collapsed over a wide section. Drivers traveling through the area were forced to slow down and avoid the route due to safety concerns. Initial reports confirmed that one motorcycle was damaged and one person, believed to be the rider, sustained injuries in the incident. Emergency responders and relevant agencies rushed to the scene to inspect the collapse and investigate the cause while workers quickly installed barriers to prevent further accidents. Traffic police have since taken control of the area and are assisting with traffic flow, although congestion along Charan Sanitwong Road remains severe. Motorists are being advised to avoid the route until the situation is fully resolved.
