KANCHANABURI, Thailand – The Bunker Boys’ Songkran escape turned into an action-packed golfing adventure, as the group traded Pattaya’s water fights for four days of intense competition, soaring temperatures, and remarkably high scoring across some of the region’s finest courses.

The trip teed off on April 15 at Royal Ratchaburi Golf Club, where blistering heat and gusty winds tested the field. Despite the conditions, Robby Watts delivered a standout performance with 45 points, finishing four clear of Paul Smith on 41. Craig Dows edged Michael Brett on countback for third. Paul Smith dominated the near pins, claiming two.

Hopes of escaping Songkran festivities proved short-lived, as Kanchanaburi was in full celebration mode—prompting reflection among the group that a quieter destination might be needed in future.

An impromptu second round on April 16 at Evergreen Hills Golf Club & Resort proved a highlight. The course, praised for its variety and pristine condition, offered exceptional value and enjoyment. Les Cobban rose to the occasion with 43 points, while Jay Babin impressed in second with 35. Craig Dows again featured on the leaderboard, taking third on countback. No near pin contest was held due to the last-minute scheduling.

By Day 3 at Artitaya Golf & Resort, a smaller but determined group battled through golf fatigue. The well-watered course, with immaculate greens, drew praise from all. Colin Greig delivered a superb 45-point round to match Watts’ earlier feat, securing top spot. Les Cobban narrowly beat Dave Ashman for second, while Greig also claimed two near pins.

The finale on April 18 at Grand Prix Golf Club brought extreme heat and hazy conditions, with air quality in the red zone. Scoring dipped slightly, but Colin Greig capped a dominant trip with another win on 37 points, earning him Golfer of the Trip honors. Paul Smith finished second on countback from Jay Babin, while Michael Brett excelled on the near pins, taking three.

Off the course, the trip had its share of memorable moments—Craig Dows’ forgotten clubs led to a lengthy retrieval journey, while Jay Babin endured a three-hour navigation ordeal after a wrong turn near the hotel.

Despite the challenges, the Bunker Boys recorded some of their best scoring in recent memory, making the Kanchanaburi trip one to remember.
