BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has organized the Songkran Festival 2026 in Malaysia.

On April 10, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas presided over the official launch of Malaysia’s Premier Songkran Festival 2026. The event, jointly organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, EQ Solutions Sdn. Bhd., and 1 Utama Shopping Centre, runs from April 9 to 19, 2026 at the Forecourt, 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara, Selangor.

The opening ceremony was attended by Malaysia’s Minister of Digital and Member of Parliament for Damansara, Mr. Gobind Singh Deo, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited guests. Participants took part in traditional Thai cultural activities, including Rod Nam Dam Hua (water-pouring ceremony to honor elders), Thai Songkran Dance, Ram Wong Klong Yao (Long Drum Dance) performed by Persatuan Siam Kelantan Kuala Lumpur (PESILA), water-splashing festivities, and the wearing of traditional Thai costumes.

The event also coincides with Thailand’s submission of “Chud Thai: The Knowledge, Craftsmanship, and Practices of the Thai National Costume” for inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2026.

The Embassy featured a sacred Buddha statue for the Song Nam Phra ritual. The festival was well received and highlighted the unity of the Thai community in Malaysia and the global appeal of Thai culture. Malaysian media provided extensive coverage of the opening ceremony through various platforms.

The Embassy invites the public to attend the festival featuring Thai food and products from April 9 to 19, 2026. The event reflects the growing popularity of Thai culture in Malaysia, following strong attendance of approximately 100,000 visitors in 2025. (NNT)
