PATTAYA, Thailand – On Tuesday, April 7, the My Bar Golf Society returned to Bangpra Golf Course, fondly known as the “monkey course.” It had been a few months since the last visit, and with four groups heading out, the society enjoyed a perfect day for golf. The course was in fine condition—long and demanding—but a welcome cooling breeze helped make the heat manageable. Even the resident monkeys seemed too lethargic to cause their usual mischief.

The difficulty of the layout was reflected in the scores, with only one player managing to beat his handicap. Robert Charbonneau produced an excellent round of 37 Stableford points to take first place. Tony Oakes followed with a solid 35 points to secure runner-up position.

Results – Bangpra Golf Course (April 7):
1st Robert Charbonneau (13) – 37 points
2nd Tony Oakes (18) – 35 points

Near pins went to Robert Charbonneau, Mike Malott, and Maurice Paradis, who claimed two. Willem Lasonder, perhaps distracted by the local wildlife, picked up the spoon on the day.

On Thursday, April 9, Mark Bromwich organized a rainbow competition at Pattaya Country Club, attracting 16 enthusiastic golfers. Once again, conditions were hot, but a steady breeze kept spirits high. The course was presented in excellent condition and encouraged good scoring, while the rainbow format added an extra layer of strategy to the day.

The scoring proved impressive across the field, with no player finishing below 30 points and six players reaching the 40-point mark or better. Gary Lees delivered the standout performance, claiming “man of the day” honors with an outstanding 43 Stableford points. Willem Lasonder bounced back strongly to take second place with 42 points.

Results – Pattaya Country Club (April 9):
1st Gary Lees (29) – 43 points
2nd Willem Lasonder (38) – 42 points

Near pins were shared between Maurice Paradis (two), Gary Lees, and Bob Edwards. Steve Sturley, despite his efforts, found the competition too strong and received the spoon.

The society also said goodbye this week to Mike Malott, Peter Pendlebury, and Patrick Troy, who are returning to their home countries. All three will be missed, and members look forward to welcoming them back again in the future.
