Fresh pork, chicken, and eggs remain widely available across Thailand as officials monitor prices and production, with authorities stepping in to curb profiteering and support consumers amid recent heatwave impacts.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) confirms that the national supply of pork, chicken, and eggs remains sufficient to meet demand. Although extreme heat since late February 2026 has temporarily reduced production and increased prices, the department assures the public that conditions are stabilizing.

Deputy Director-General Jirawuth Suwanna-arj stated that the DIT is working with farmer groups, livestock breeders, and major wholesalers to monitor supply and manage pricing. Severe heatwaves have caused livestock to eat less, slowing the growth of pigs and poultry, and reducing both the quantity and size of eggs. Farmers have also faced higher operational costs due to increased water and electricity use for cooling systems.

Current market trends show that prices are stabilizing. Farm-gate pig prices have increased as producers recover from previous losses, while chicken prices are declining due to lower demand and higher output. Egg production is expected to normalize as the rainy season begins.

The government and private sector partners have committed to maintaining fair prices to help reduce living costs. Essential goods will continue to be offered at discounted rates through the “Blue Flag” project.

Authorities warn that price gouging or unfair trade practices will result in strict legal action, including fines and imprisonment. Reports can be made at any time via the 1569 hotline. (NNT)
