BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has affirmed the government will not favor large business interests over the public, stating that no group would be placed above the people. The prime minister said authorities are working to ease living costs while maintaining strict controls to prevent stockpiling.
Anutin’s remarks come as the government reviews a proposal to reduce the diesel excise tax by 1 baht, put forward by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas. Officials are now assessing the potential impact before making a decision.
Anutin said several factors must be considered, including differences in fuel prices with neighboring countries. He added that lower domestic prices could lead to fuel being diverted across borders, requiring a careful policy balance.
The premier also addressed concerns about support for large business groups, stating that the administration remains accountable to the public and will continue to prioritize public interests while pursuing measures to ease economic pressure. (NNT)
