PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand has entered a period of intense summer heat as the country prepares for the upcoming Songkran holiday, with temperatures across the upper regions expected to soar to 37–41°C under hazy skies and strong daytime heat buildup.

The Thai Meteorological Department reported that northern, northeastern, and central Thailand are experiencing widespread hot to very hot conditions, driven by a heat low covering the upper country. Light southwest and southern winds are providing limited relief, while also triggering isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds in some areas.

Although Pattaya and the Eastern Seaboard are not in the most extreme heat zones, conditions remain hot and humid, with strong sunlight expected throughout the day. The combination of high temperatures, sea breeze humidity, and outdoor water activities during Songkran could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for tourists and locals.

Authorities are advising Songkran visitors in Pattaya to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during midday hours, and to stay hydrated while participating in beach activities, water fights, and island trips. Health officials also recommend frequent rest breaks and caution for vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

Meanwhile, upper Thailand continues to face a dual challenge of extreme heat and persistent haze, with PM2.5 and hotspot accumulation still present in northern regions, reducing air quality and visibility.

Meteorologists forecast that hot conditions will persist nationwide throughout the first week of April, with only isolated thunderstorms expected in some areas. The southern region will see scattered rain but will also remain generally hot during the daytime.

As Songkran approaches, authorities are urging the public to balance festive travel with heat safety awareness, particularly in popular tourist destinations like Pattaya where outdoor activity levels will be high.

Meteorologists say temperatures across Thailand are expected to reach 37–41°C, with added risks from haze and high humidity affecting popular beach and island destinations.
