PATTAYA, Thailand – Authorities in Pattaya launched an early-morning operation targeting groups of transgender individuals in key nightlife areas, following ongoing complaints from tourists.

At around 4:00 AM on April 1, a police task force carried out a coordinated sweep along Walking Street Pattaya. The operation followed a series of reports involving groups of transgender individuals allegedly harassing or disturbing tourists, both Thai and foreign, sparking public criticism and concerns over Pattaya’s tourism image.

Officials inspected known gathering points and detained 31 transgender individuals for questioning. They were taken to Pattaya City Police Station for identity checks and record-keeping, which authorities say will help monitor repeat behavior and improve response times.

Authorities stressed the operation was aimed at preventing recurring incidents and maintaining order in major tourist zones. Officials added that similar measures may continue as part of broader efforts to improve safety and visitor confidence.

Following the operation, the atmosphere along Walking Street returned to normal, with tourists continuing to enjoy the area under increased security presence.
