BANGKOK, Thailand – Mahidol University has launched “MU SYNERGY: Real World Impact in Action,” a strategy to translate academic research into economic outcomes while supporting the role of universities in national development.
The initiative involves collaboration with more than 200 private-sector partners, including NVIDIA, Siam AI Corporation, Siam Bioscience, Betagro, and the Federation of Thai Industries. The partnerships are intended to accelerate innovation and support investment in advanced technologies.
Under the strategy, the university is advancing work in five sectors identified as future growth areas: medical artificial intelligence, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, xenotransplantation, the food industry, and next-generation education. Projects include AI-based medical systems already in use in hospitals, as well as new facilities for advanced therapeutic production.
Research efforts also extend to developing genetically modified organs for transplantation and creating high-value food products using Thailand’s biodiversity. At the same time, education programs are being updated through work-integrated learning and flexible systems to better align graduates with industry needs. Mahidol University President Dr Piyamitr Sritara said the strategy represents a shift toward building innovation-driven economic systems that connect academia with industry, boosting competitiveness, attracting investment, and supporting long-term economic growth.
