Interior Ministry appoints nationwide officers to monitor fuel trade and prevent shortages

Thailand’s Ministry of Interior has appointed provincial governors and district chiefs nationwide to oversee fuel pricing, stock levels, and distribution as authorities intensify monitoring to prevent shortages amid Middle East tensions.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Interior has appointed authorized officers nationwide to enforce measures to prevent fuel shortages related to the situation in the Middle East.

Permanent Secretary for Interior Ansit Samphantharat announced on March 21, 2026, that these appointments follow Prime Minister’s Order No. 3/2026, dated March 20, 2026, which details measures to address and prevent fuel shortages. The order assigns Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn and key agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation, and the Department of Energy Business, to monitor fuel traders’ compliance with relevant laws.

The Ministry of Interior has issued an official announcement appointing senior officials at both central and provincial levels as authorized officers. These include deputy permanent secretaries, the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, provincial governors, deputy governors, provincial chief officers, and district chiefs nationwide.

The appointed officers are responsible for ensuring compliance with government directives. Their duties include requiring fuel traders to display retail prices clearly, verifying fuel stock levels and sales volumes, and monitoring for hoarding or irregular distribution.



The Permanent Secretary stated that provincial governors must assign provincial energy offices to report all fuel price adjustments, production, and sales data. Refinery operators are required to report production volumes, stock levels, sales volumes, and customer details. Non-refinery traders must report sales data for customers purchasing more than 3,000 liters per transaction.

All reports must be submitted to the Department of Energy Business by 6 p.m. each day, with copies sent to the Ministry of Interior. (NNT)
