Airlines in Thailand are reviewing operating costs and airfare structures as the aviation sector seeks measures to ease pressure from fluctuating global energy prices.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Airlines Association of Thailand has said it is preparing to propose a temporary reduction in the excise tax on jet fuel to help stabilize airfares amid volatile global energy prices. The measure aims to reduce airlines’ operating costs and limit the impact on passengers.

The proposal follows discussions among six domestic airlines on the state of the aviation sector and ways to manage rising costs. Industry representatives said fluctuations in global oil prices continue to put pressure on airline operations.

A temporary cut in the excise tax for domestic flights is expected to help airlines manage expenses and maintain reasonable ticket prices. The measure is being considered as short-term support for the industry during ongoing economic uncertainty.

Airlines have also outlined plans for the 2026 Songkran holiday period, including adding extra flights and lowering airfare price caps by up to 30 percent. The measures are expected to accommodate increased travel demand and support tourism and regional economies during the holiday season. (NNT)
