PATTAYA, Thailand – Hot daytime temperatures are expected across Pattaya and the eastern region of Thailand, with isolated thunderstorms possible as shifting wind patterns bring moisture into the area.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, much of the country is experiencing hot conditions during the day. However, moisture carried by southern and southeasterly winds from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea is creating the potential for scattered thunderstorms.

Across eastern provinces including Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, thunderstorms are forecast to affect around 20 percent of the area. In Pattaya, temperatures are expected to range from about 21–26°C in the early morning to highs of 32–37°C during the afternoon.

Southeasterly winds will blow at 15–30 kilometres per hour, while sea conditions are expected to remain relatively moderate. Waves in the Gulf are forecast at around one metre, though they could exceed two metres in areas experiencing thunderstorms.

The department said the weather pattern is being influenced by a weakening high-pressure system extending from China across the upper Northeast and the South China Sea, while warm moisture continues to move inland.

Authorities advise residents and visitors to remain cautious during thunderstorms and to take care in the rising heat. Dust and haze levels across much of upper Thailand are also building to moderate to relatively high levels due to weak air circulation.
