SURIN, Thailand – The problem of scam networks has been identified as a national security threat that the Thai government is putting as a priority, with serious and ongoing suppression efforts. Recently, a news team from the Government Public Relations Department (PRD), led by NBT Connext, together with Thai and international media, visited an actual scam operation site in the Or Samet- Chong Chom border area in Surin Province. The visit, led by Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sonjaidee, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, in his capacity as Director of the Joint Information Center on the Thailand – Cambodia Situation, aimed to verify facts on the ground.
Officials revealed that the area consists of more than 160 buildings divided into zones A–G, currently under Thai control. Members of the media were taken to inspect a six-story yellow building in Zone A, resembling a hotel or condominium, which was damaged during clashes on 7 December 2025. Inside, the building was divided into accommodation areas and scam operation rooms, featuring bunk beds for large numbers of occupants, computer equipment, scripted chat documents used to deceive victims, time cards, and fake police uniforms from several countries.
Authorities also found rooms designed to replicate police offices in certain countries. These included a room staged as a Chinese police station with Chinese-language signage, and another decorated to resemble a Vietnamese bank, complete with service counters, waiting areas, and counterfeit US dollar banknotes. These setups were used to create credibility during video calls to deceive victims into transferring money. The findings indicate that the building functioned as a fully integrated scam complex, providing accommodation, food, and workspaces in one location.
Air Chief Marshal Prapas stated that Or Samet had been identified as a base for online scamming operations posing a global threat. He noted that leading media representatives to the site was intended to present empirical evidence and communicate the facts to the public, as such criminal activities inflict upon populations worldwide.
