BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Energy has discussed with a leading U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer to increase LNG supply to Thailand and expedite delivery schedules amid potential market disruptions related to Middle East tensions.
On March 13, 2026, Minister of Energy Auttapol Rerkpiboon led senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and executives from PTT Public Company Limited in talks with Anatol Feygin, Chief Commercial Officer of Cheniere Energy Inc., one of the world’s major LNG producers in the United States.
The parties discussed raising LNG deliveries to Thailand under the current contract from 1 million to 1.3 million tons per year for the remaining 15 years, through 2041, to strengthen Thailand’s long-term energy security.
They also considered moving part of the LNG delivery schedule from the third to the second quarter of 2026 to reduce potential impacts if Middle East tensions persist. Cheniere Energy confirmed its willingness to expedite the process as much as possible.
Minister Auttapol noted that since the energy crisis began, the government has taken several steps to maintain stability. These include suspending oil exports, increasing national reserves, sourcing energy from outside the Middle East, promoting biofuels, using the Oil Fuel Fund to ease price impacts, and encouraging conservation.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to national energy security and to helping Thailand address current global energy challenges. (NNT)
