Traffic is diverted along the railway parallel road in Pattaya after authorities closed the section between Chaiyaphruek Withi and Nong Ket Yai intersections for road surface repairs, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The first day of a major road closure along the railway parallel road in Pattaya has triggered a wave of public reactions online, with many residents voicing frustration over ongoing roadworks and traffic disruptions.

City authorities closed the section between Chaiyaphruek Withi Intersection and Nong Ket Yai Intersection on March 10 to carry out road surface improvements. The project aims to repair damaged pavement along one of Pattaya’s important traffic routes.

However, many residents and motorists took to social media to question whether the project had been properly planned, suggesting that all underground works such as pipe installations should be completed at the same time to avoid repeated closures.

Some users asked whether repairs would also be carried out on the opposite side of the road, while others said they had not yet seen significant work taking place despite the closure.

Several residents complained that roadworks across Pattaya often appear to start and stop without clear progress. Some said they had been forced to take long detours every day, increasing fuel costs and travel time.

Police officers direct traffic near the construction zone along the railway road in Pattaya on the first day of road surface improvement works, helping manage congestion as drivers navigate detours.

Others called on city officials to speed up construction, noting that for a project of this scale, they believed work should be completed within one or two weeks if properly managed.

Additional comments highlighted road problems in other parts of the city, including sections along Sukhumvit Road near Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, where residents said repairs are urgently needed.

Motorists from the Khao Talo area also raised concerns about heavy congestion near the railway crossing, suggesting that traffic signal timing should be extended during morning rush hours to reduce long queues of vehicles.

Some residents expressed broader frustration with roadworks across Pattaya, saying construction sites often appear in multiple locations at the same time while existing projects remain unfinished.

“Everywhere in Pattaya there are roadworks and digging. Drivers are constantly trying to avoid closed roads and it’s becoming harder to find a clear route,” one commenter wrote, urging authorities to complete existing projects before opening new construction sites.

Despite the complaints, some residents agreed that the damaged road surface along the railway road had deteriorated significantly and required urgent repairs, particularly near intersections where the pavement has become severely uneven.
