PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning of summer storms expected to affect large parts of Thailand from March 11 to 13, with unstable weather conditions likely to reach Pattaya and surrounding areas later in the period.
According to the forecast, the storm system will begin in northern Thailand on March 11 before expanding southward. The most active weather is expected on March 12 as thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and possible hail spread across the upper central region, parts of the northeast, and the eastern region.
For coastal areas such as Pattaya and the wider Chonburi province, the unsettled weather is forecast to arrive on March 13. Residents could experience sudden thunderstorms, strong winds, and brief heavy rain as the weather system moves south toward the lower central region and the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
Meteorologists say the unstable weather is being caused by a westerly wind wave moving in from Myanmar, interacting with a moderate high-pressure system pushing cooler air down from China. At the same time, much of Thailand is experiencing intense daytime heat, creating conditions favorable for sudden summer storms.
Local authorities are advising residents and visitors in Pattaya to remain cautious, particularly during sudden weather changes. People are encouraged to avoid open areas and to stay clear of large trees, billboards, or unstable structures during thunderstorms and strong winds.
Farmers and property owners in the eastern region are also advised to secure orchards, outdoor equipment, and livestock areas to reduce potential damage from gusty winds or hail.
Weather officials note that the combination of extreme heat followed by sudden storms is typical of Thailand’s transition into the hot season, and conditions may change quickly over the next few days. Residents and tourists are encouraged to monitor updates from the Thai Meteorological Department as the system approaches the eastern seaboard.
