BANGKOK, Thailand – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved adjustments to its spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) procurement plan, adding three cargo shipments scheduled for delivery between March and April as authorities respond to tensions in the Middle East and potential effects on energy supply.
According to the ERC, the decision followed an assessment of potential risks to natural gas supply and transport routes arising from regional instability. The additional LNG purchases are expected to help maintain sufficient fuel for electricity generation and support stability in the country’s power system.
Officials said some existing gas sources and shipping routes could face disruption due to regional tensions. The commission has therefore instructed LNG shippers to secure additional volumes to ensure supplies remain adequate for domestic demand and maintain confidence among the public and the business sector.
The ERC said it will continue monitoring global energy markets and LNG procurement while coordinating with relevant agencies to maintain supply during periods of high electricity demand. Authorities also encouraged households to conserve energy by switching off unused electrical appliances, adjusting air conditioners to 26°C, using energy-efficient devices, unplugging equipment when not in use, and increasing green spaces around homes to help reduce energy consumption.
