NARATHIWAT, Thailand – Three civilians were injured on Wednesday when a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol detonated in Narathiwat’s Rueso district.

The explosion occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Feb. 11 at a culvert in Gado village. Investigators found a crater one meter deep and two meters wide, caused by a 50kg improvised explosive device (IED) packed into a cooking gas cylinder and triggered via a wired battery.

The blast damaged a brown Isuzu pickup truck carrying four people. The vehicle was following a police patrol unit when the bomb was detonated. While the police vehicle cleared the area safely, the civilian truck behind it bore the brunt of the explosion.

All three victims suffered chest tightness and ear ringing and were treated at Rueso Hospital.

Authorities believe the attackers, hiding in the nearby forest, were targeting the police patrol but mistimed the detonation, hitting the civilian vehicle instead. (TNA)
