Officials outline drought preparedness and water management measures after the Cabinet acknowledged eight nationwide actions aimed at ensuring water security, reducing drought risks, and supporting household and agricultural water use during the 2025/26 dry season.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Cabinet acknowledged eight measures to address the 2025/26 dry season, with a focus on improving water resource management and strengthening national preparedness in line with the water management calendar. These measures aim to ensure sufficient water supply, reduce drought risks, and support household and agricultural water use during the dry season.

Under the drought response framework, agencies will forecast and issue early warnings for areas at risk of water shortages to support timely preparedness. They will also improve water security for households and agriculture by managing water more efficiently and prioritizing supply in key areas.

Water allocation plans and designated cropping areas will be set, with usage managed by river basin committee priorities to ensure fair distribution. Agencies will also improve water-use efficiency, promote conservation, and reduce losses across all sectors.

Measures will be taken to monitor and address water quality, ensuring safe water for consumption and agriculture. Support will be provided to local communities and water-user organizations to strengthen their role in managing local water resources.

Public awareness campaigns will communicate water management plans, drought conditions, and water-use controls to encourage public cooperation. All measures will be closely monitored and evaluated to ensure effectiveness and guide ongoing water management decisions.

Relevant agencies will implement the measures and report progress to the National Water Resources Committee. A summary of results will be submitted to the Cabinet for acknowledgment. (NNT)
