PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya experienced a noticeably calmer atmosphere on Saturday evening ahead of advance voting scheduled for February 1, as entertainment venues, bars, and alcohol-selling establishments across the city cooperated with election laws by temporarily closing their doors.
A survey of key areas, including major tourist roads and nightlife zones, found widespread compliance with the measures. The usually lively nighttime scene was significantly subdued, prompting both Thai and foreign tourists to adjust their plans.
Instead of nightlife activities, many visitors opted to spend the evening along the beachfront, sitting by the sea to enjoy the cool ocean breeze. The mood was calm and unhurried, offering a simpler and more relaxed alternative to Pattaya’s typical late-night buzz.
Pattaya City authorities confirmed that the closures are part of a temporary ban on the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages on two consecutive election-related weekends, in accordance with national regulations. The prohibition covers the sale, distribution, free provision, or serving of all types of alcohol at all establishments and activities within Pattaya, including shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and private events.

The alcohol ban was in effect from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, and will be enforced again from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8.
Authorities have stepped up security and monitoring during the restriction periods, deploying officers for regular patrols, enforcing bans on public drinking, and stationing personnel at sensitive locations. City officials urged business operators and the public to strictly comply with the measures, warning that violators may face legal action under existing alcohol control laws.
Officials said the temporary restrictions are intended to maintain public order and ensure full compliance with national election regulations during the specified periods.
