Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon assist medical staff at a Pattaya hospital in safely removing a metal ring after it caused severe swelling, using specialized cutting equipment.

PATTAYA, Thailand – A 54-year-old man in Pattaya required emergency assistance after inserting a metal ring onto his genitals, resulting in severe swelling that left hospital staff unable to remove it without specialist equipment.

The incident occurred at Bhattamakhun Pattaya Hospital, where medical staff requested support from the Sawang Boriboon. Rescue personnel led by Jeerasak Nuchlek, head of the Banglamung rescue unit, arrived with a small cutting tool to assist.

Upon examination, the man—reported by rescuers as being in his early to mid-50s—was found to have significant swelling caused by a metal ring placed at the base of the organ, restricting blood flow. Rescue workers carefully inserted a thin metal plate between the skin and the ring to prevent injury before using a precision cutting tool to remove it. Water was continuously applied during the process to prevent heat buildup. The operation took approximately five minutes and was completed safely.

Jeerasak said the case serves as a warning, noting that this was not the first such incident handled by rescue teams. He urged the public to think carefully before attempting unsafe practices based on misinformation or misconceptions, stressing that such actions can lead to serious medical complications.

Authorities reminded the public that medical emergencies of this nature should be handled by professionals and that seeking help early can prevent more severe injuries.
