BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has issued an advisory urging Thai nationals in India to exercise increased caution following reports of Nipah virus (NIPAH) infections in West Bengal.

Thai citizens living in affected areas, and those planning to travel to Bodh Gaya or nearby locations for tourism or pilgrimage, are advised to closely monitor their health and follow all preventive measures.



The Department recommends that Thai nationals stay informed through official announcements from Indian authorities, maintain good personal hygiene by washing hands frequently with soap and water, and wear face masks in high-risk or crowded areas. They should avoid eating fruit with bite marks or that has fallen to the ground, wash fruit thoroughly, ensure food is well-cooked, and avoid contact with sick individuals or animals. Anyone experiencing unusual symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.

Meanwhile, screening measures have been intensified in Thailand. Officers from the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, have begun enhanced screening of passengers arriving from West Bengal, India, at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airports. These operations are coordinated with immigration authorities, Airports of Thailand, and other relevant agencies.


Authorities report that passengers at immigration checkpoints have fully cooperated with screening procedures, supporting effective public health measures to prevent potential risks.
