Residents in low-lying areas are urged to monitor conditions and prepare for possible flooding as high tides are forecast from January 18–22.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning for residents in six central provinces and Bangkok to monitor high tide and seawater intrusion from January 18 to 22, 2026.

The warning covers Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan, and Bangkok. High tides are forecast between 7 and 10 A.M., which could swell rivers and canals, threaten to spill over riverbanks, and flood low-lying neighborhoods and communities beyond flood barriers.

Risk areas include Mueang Pathum Thani and Sam Khok in Pathum Thani; Mueang Nonthaburi, Pak Kret, and Bang Kruai in Nonthaburi; Bang Len, Nakhon Chai Si, and Sam Phran in Nakhon Pathom; every district in Samut Sakhon; Mueang Samut Songkhram; Mueang Samut Prakan, Phra Samut Chedi, Phra Pradaeng, and Bang Bo; as well as low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok.

The DDPM has coordinated with provincial authorities and agencies to inspect flood barriers, prepare machinery and disaster-response equipment, and deploy personnel to monitor the situation and provide assistance around the clock.

Residents in at-risk areas were advised to follow official updates closely and prepare for possible flooding to ensure their safety. Official updates are available through the THAI DISASTER ALERT application, DDPM’s LINE account @1784DDPM, and the 24-hour safety hotline 1784. (NNT)
