Wat Arun Ratchawararam says it is reviewing and strengthening on-site management after public concern over commercial photography inside the temple, introducing etiquette training for photographers and coordinating with police and district authorities to preserve religious decorum while accommodating tourism.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Wat Arun Ratchawararam has issued an apology following public concern over photography services operating inside the temple grounds, as the landmark adjusts its management practices in response to rising visitor traffic. The temple said it is reviewing how activities are regulated to better balance religious use with tourism.

The statement addressed visitors’ unease following an online discussion that drew attention to commercial photography at the site. Temple authorities acknowledged the feedback and said it prompted a reassessment of on-site oversight to ensure activities are orderly and appropriate.

The temple averages about 10,000 visitors per day, including worshippers and tourists. Under the updated rules, photographers affiliated with traditional Thai costume rental shops must complete etiquette and conduct training aligned with temple regulations before being permitted to provide services on temple grounds.

Wat Arun has coordinated with the Bangkok Yai Metropolitan Police, the Bangkok Yai District Office, and the Tourist Police to ensure alignment on management policies among photographers, business operators, and temple personnel. The agencies are working together to maintain proper conduct and public order.

Officials said the coordinated approach seeks to protect the temple’s standing, support Thai tourism, and ensure respect for religious practices and public decorum. (NNT)
