BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Navy apprehended six foreign nationals attempting to illegally cross from Thailand into Cambodia, underscoring ongoing transnational crime along the eastern border.

Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiphan stated that the Chanthaburi–Trat Border Defence Command, through the Chanthaburi Marine Task Force, made the arrests in Pong Nam Ron district, Chanthaburi province. The suspects were intercepted while attempting to cross into Cambodia illegally.

This incident highlights the ongoing activity of organized networks involved in illegal border crossings, transnational crime, and cyber scams. Authorities noted that these groups often exploit the New Year holiday, when increased travel makes it easier to evade security. The case demonstrates the continued presence of transnational criminal networks based in neighboring countries, with broader implications for regional security.

The Royal Thai Navy confirmed that the suspects were detained and handled in full compliance with the law, specifically the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act B.E. 2565 (2022). Officials respected human dignity, protected fundamental rights, and provided humanitarian care in line with international standards. Detainees received assistance in contacting relevant authorities, and all legal procedures are being conducted transparently and fairly.

The Navy reiterated that the Chanthaburi–Trat Border Defence Command will continue to coordinate with other security agencies. Enhanced surveillance and enforcement will remain in place to prevent illegal border crossings and ensure Thailand is not used as a transit route or base for transnational crime. (NNT)
