72-hour ceasefire to end December 30 as Thailand reports calm border situation, PM says

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addresses the media on the Thailand–Cambodia ceasefire, confirming security remains calm, evacuees are returning home, and authorities remain on full alert as diplomatic talks continue to support lasting stability.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul disclosed that the 72-hour ceasefire outlined in the Joint Statement will conclude at noon on December 30, 2025. He stated that security agencies report the overall situation remains calm, with no reports of drone sightings in multiple areas.

The Prime Minister stressed that while both parties have ceased attacks and reduced tensions, security agencies remain on full alert and maintain readiness to ensure public confidence and safety in affected regions.



The Prime Minister also referred to the recent meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. He said he had been informed that the discussions proceeded positively and that talks with Cambodia’s foreign minister are expected to follow. Regarding reports that China may provide Cambodia with assistance totaling 20 million yuan, he said Thailand has also received a similar offer and that further discussions will take place once the Thai foreign minister returns. He urged the public to rely on official sources of information.


Regarding the return of evacuees from temporary shelters, the Prime Minister shared that the process is now complete, with residents steadily moving back to areas deemed safe by officials. In Buriram Province, for instance, the number of evacuees has dropped from over 20,000 to about 2,000. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to public safety and expressed optimism that conditions will continue to improve. (NNT)
