
BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow met with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, to discuss recent developments regarding the Thailand-Cambodia border following the ceasefire agreement.
The Thai side appreciated China’s role and understanding in supporting peace between Thailand and Cambodia through the Asian approach. Thailand is of the view that adjustments to diplomatic relations should be done gradually to build trust and confidence on both sides. Thailand will consider releasing 18 prisoners of war after the 72-hour ceasefire period, and hopes Cambodia will assist in the return of Thai nationals along the border.
The Chinese Foreign Minister welcomed the ceasefire agreement achieved through bilateral negotiation. China reiterated its respect for the non-interference principle and expressed its readiness to serve as a platform to support lasting peace between the two countries. (NNT)
