SURIN, Thailand – Governor of Surin Province Charoen Waenphet has approved the phased return of evacuees from temporary shelters to their homes, starting at 12:00 on Sunday, December 28, 2025, under strict safety conditions.
The Governor stated that agencies have been instructed to increase safety inspections in affected areas, especially where unexploded ordnance may remain. Any suspicious objects must be reported immediately to local authorities, who will coordinate with security agencies to deploy explosive ordnance disposal teams promptly.
The return of residents will be voluntary. Those who wish to remain at temporary shelters may do so, with continued care and assistance from the authorities. The phased return aims to reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents.
Agencies have also been directed to assess damage in affected areas and expedite assistance and compensation for impacted residents in accordance with government criteria. Authorities will maintain rapid alert systems to ensure residents can move quickly to shelters or safe areas if needed. (NNT)
