BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said a recent landmine incident that seriously injured a Thai soldier in Surin province should be considered a separate matter from the ongoing General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Thailand and Cambodia. The soldier was injured during a mine-clearance operation near Prasat Ta Kwai and lost a leg, bringing the number of similar incidents in the area to nine.
Anutin said any response to the incident falls under the military’s authority. He stated that the armed forces are responsible for evaluating the situation and determining appropriate actions based on their assessment.
The premier added that the border meeting with Cambodia would proceed independently and would not be influenced by military considerations linked to the landmine incident.
Addressing the National Security Council meeting earlier in the day, Anutin said he would provide further details after completing a scheduled television appearance, including whether a report from the GBC secretariat-level committee would be reviewed. (NNT)
