PATTAYA, Thailand — The Thai Meteorological Department has warned that southern Thailand will see an increase in rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in some areas between December 25–28, while Pattaya and much of the eastern region continue to experience cool mornings and moderate haze conditions.
According to the latest 24-hour forecast issued on December 23, a weakening high-pressure system remains over upper Thailand, combined with upper-level northwesterly winds. This is keeping temperatures cooler than usual in many regions, including the eastern provinces.
In Pattaya and the wider eastern region, the weather is expected to be cool in the morning with light mist, followed by warm to hot conditions during the day. Temperatures are forecast to range from 19–24°C in the morning to 33–34°C during the afternoon, with northeast winds blowing at 15–30 km/h. Sea conditions along the eastern seaboard are expected to remain relatively calm, with waves around 1 metre.
While rainfall in Pattaya is expected to be limited in the coming days, authorities are closely monitoring weather patterns as the northeast monsoon strengthens, particularly in the lower Gulf of Thailand and southern provinces.
The Meteorological Department warned that from December 25 to 28, the southern region — especially the lower southern provinces — could face heavy to very heavy rainfall due to intensified monsoon activity affecting the Gulf of Thailand, southern Thailand, and the Andaman Sea. Residents in those areas are advised to watch for flash flooding and accumulated rainfall, while small boat operators are urged to avoid sailing during thunderstorms, as waves may exceed 2 metres.
Meanwhile, air quality remains a concern in Pattaya and surrounding eastern provinces, though conditions are not as severe as in central Thailand. The department reported moderate levels of dust and haze across central Thailand, including Bangkok and its metropolitan area, due to poor air circulation. Other regions, including the East, are experiencing good to moderate air quality, but residents are advised to monitor conditions, particularly those with respiratory issues.
Authorities continue to urge the public to stay updated on weather advisories as seasonal conditions shift toward the year-end period, which typically brings changing sea conditions and increased monsoon activity in southern Thailand.
