RATCHABURI, Thailand — An unexpected accident occurred on Phetkasem Road in Bang Phae district when a group of horses escaped from their enclosure and suddenly ran across the highway, causing a passenger car to crash into them. Two horses were killed and three others injured. Police are investigating the cause and determining responsibility.

The incident happened on December 13. Pol. Capt. Senor Thep-art, a deputy investigator at Bang Phae Police Station, received a report of a car colliding with horses on the inbound lane of Phetkasem Road toward Ratchaburi, in Moo 1, Wang Yen subdistrict.

Police officers, led by Pol. Col. Sommat Chanrat, superintendent of Bang Phae Police Station, arrived at the scene along with rescue workers from Ruamjai Ratchaburi Foundation.

At the scene, a black Honda sedan with Bangkok registration was found stopped on the roadway with severe front-end damage. The driver was identified as Mr. That Chairat, 66, from Bangkok.

Authorities found two horses dead at the scene and three others injured, a total of five horses involved. The animals belonged to Ms. Suwitchaya Noikamsin, 40, the owner of a horse stable in Wang Yen subdistrict.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was traveling in the right lane toward Ratchaburi when the five horses suddenly ran out from the left side of the road at close range. The driver was unable to brake or avoid the animals in time, resulting in a direct collision.

Police documented the scene and recorded the incident before summoning both the driver and the stable owner for further questioning to determine legal responsibility.
