
BANGKOK, Thailand – The 2nd Army Area reported a sharp escalation in fighting along the Thai–Cambodian border as of 9:00 a.m. today (Dec 9), following a wave of attacks launched by Cambodian forces beginning at 4:50 a.m. Thai positions came under heavy assault from BM-21 multiple-launch rockets, bomb-dropping drones, and kamikaze drones across several sectors, including Chong Bok, Ta Khwai Temple, and Kana Temple.
The heaviest clashes were recorded in Phu Ma Khuea and Ta Muen Thom Temple, where Cambodian troops attempted to retake ground. BM-21 rocket impacts were also reported in civilian areas. Thai forces responded with direct and indirect fire, successfully holding key positions and inflicting damage on opposing forces in accordance with the operational plan.
A delegation from the ASEAN Observers Team in Thailand (AOT-TH) visited Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital, where they met with military personnel injured during an ambush at Phu Pha Lek Base in Sisaket province, as part of regional monitoring efforts.
Evacuation support continues across the region. Authorities have set up 492 temporary shelters in four provinces, currently housing 125,838 civilians: 22,580 in Ubon Ratchathani, 45,914 in Sisaket, 51,781 in Surin, and 5,563 in Buri Ram. An additional 75 evacuation points are serving 3,123 vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities.
The Army Veterinary Department has provided 12,000 bales (24,000 kg) of dried hay to assist farmers caring for livestock in affected areas. The 2nd Army Area has asked the public not to share images, videos, or information related to military operations to protect frontline personnel and operational security.
