BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) has activated emergency measures to support communities and vulnerable groups in seven Thai provinces along the Cambodian border amid rising security tensions. Minister Akkhara Prompow recently convened an urgent meeting with provincial offices and “MSDHS Near You” teams to coordinate immediate assistance and ensure readiness on the ground.

The response covers Ubon Ratchathani, Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Sa Kaeo, Trat, and Chanthaburi. Local social development teams have been directed to work with health authorities, security forces, local administrations, the Red Cross, and civil society networks to assist residents in and around evacuation centers. Special MSDHS support points will be set up to provide welfare guidance, receive complaints, and offer direct services to those in need.

Priority is being given to children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and bedridden individuals. Additional facilities are being prepared as specialized care centers to provide tailored support for high-risk groups. Staff are being positioned to ensure timely assistance and maintain essential services throughout the affected areas.

In provinces under close watch, MSDHS teams have been told to prepare for rapid deployment. This includes mapping the locations of at-risk individuals for possible evacuation and dispatching senior officials to monitor the situation directly. Coordination with local authorities is ongoing to ensure an effective response at the community level.

The ministry has also begun mobilizing supplies to meet immediate needs, including food, drinking water, infant formula, bedding, diapers, sanitary products, and hygiene items. These efforts are part of a broader plan to protect public welfare during the evolving border situation. (NNT)
