SURIN, Thailand – Authorities in Surin Province have begun urgently evacuating residents in four Thai–Cambodian border districts following a warning issued by the Army Region 2 after an armed clash erupted at Phupha Lek Pass in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province. The incident resulted in injuries to Thai soldiers and has heightened tensions along the frontier.
The situation along the Thai–Cambodian border in Surin was already fragile due to ongoing military confrontations between the two countries. The latest clash prompted the Second Army Area to issue an urgent directive to four provinces—Ubon Ratchathani, Sisaket, Surin, and Buri Ram—ordering the evacuation of communities located closest to the demarcation line.
Residents in Surin’s red-zone border villages are now moving quickly to designated temporary shelters for their safety as officials step up monitoring and readiness measures.
