PHUKET, Thailand – Her Majesty the Queen has proceeded to Beyond Kata Hotel in Phuket to participate in the 37th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, one of the region’s most prestigious international sailing events.
Her Majesty presided over and took part in the competition as a member of the Vayu sailing team, competing in the IRC Zero category under sail number THA72. Her Majesty served as the helmsperson during the long-distance race and also undertook navigational duties, monitoring wind conditions and directing the vessel’s course with precision. The event took place at Kata Beach, Karon Subdistrict, Muang Phuket District, where Thai and international spectators gathered to pay their respects.
The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is recognized as one of Asia’s most significant sailing competitions. First held in 1987 in honor of His Majesty the King on the occasion of His 60th birthday anniversary, the regatta has since grown into a highly respected international event attracting sailors from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and across Asia.
The 37th edition of the regatta is being held from November 29 to December 6, 2025. The opening programme featured youth sailing events, or the “Dinghy” division, with more than 80 young athletes from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, and Kazakhstan participating across multiple categories. The event serves as an important platform for developing young Thai sailors and supporting their advancement into international competition. (NNT)
