BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established the “Center for Assisting Foreign Nationals Affected by Southern Floods” to coordinate help for stranded tourists and manage international offers of aid.
Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeowsaid the center will act as the main contact point for foreigners seeking information and assistance.
Countries and organizations that have expressed readiness to help include Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, the Philippines, China, Croatia, Hungary, Bangladesh, Bhutan, South Africa, the United States, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with some offering medical teams, personnel, and relief supplies.
The center also supports foreign tourists affected by the floods, many of whom remain in hotels while some have already returned home. Foreign nationals needing assistance can contact the center at 02-643-5264 or email [email protected].
