Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun says Thailand is fully prepared to advance trade talks with the U.S., balancing national security with strategic economic engagement and supporting Thai exporters.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun confirmed that Thailand is moving forward with trade negotiations with the United States following positive discussions between the leaders of the two countries. She emphasized that the Thai government prioritizes national sovereignty and security while recognizing the strategic importance of trade with the U.S.

On November 15, Suphajee spoke after a meeting between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that Thailand is fully prepared to advance all necessary measures to ensure the trade negotiations succeed within the original timeframe.

Suphajee noted that, like all governments, Thailand places the highest importance on sovereignty and national security. At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce is aware of the strategic weight of U.S.–Thai trade relations and is taking comprehensive steps to prepare Thailand for the accelerated conclusion of negotiations.

The ministry is also intensifying consultations with relevant agencies to ensure smooth progress, strengthen the Thai private sector, and address issues such as tax avoidance or transshipment, reassuring the U.S. government and businesses of Thailand’s transparency and adherence to international standards.

Thailand remains confident that both sides aim for swift results, promoting stability in bilateral trade and investment. The strong relationship between Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative facilitates open dialogue on key issues.

As one of Thailand’s major trading partners, the U.S. is central to the government’s strategy, which balances maintaining strong bilateral relations with diversifying markets. Thailand continues to promote proactive strategies such as market expansion, business matching, and enabling the private sector to maximize benefits from the negotiations.

Ultimately, the Thai government and Ministry of Commerce will continue driving U.S. trade negotiations forward while safeguarding exporters’ interests, expanding into new markets, and enhancing the competitiveness of Thai products for sustainable growth.
