
BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn presided over the opening of the 69th Assembly of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) in Bangkok, reaffirming Thailand’s readiness to stand alongside aviation operators across the region and advance the country’s “Skyconomy Strategy.”
In his remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the significance of Thailand hosting this year’s gathering, noting that it offers a crucial opportunity for regional aviation leaders to shape the future of an industry that anchors global connectivity, economic growth, and tourism. He stressed that aviation is not just a commercial enterprise but a core pillar of the global economy, adding that the continued rise of the Asia-Pacific region will be even more dynamic when its aviation networks are strong, resilient, and fully interconnected.
The Thai government has instructed the Ministry of Transport to advance the Skyconomy Strategy, which seeks to position Thailand as a regional aviation hub. This includes strengthening passenger and cargo transport, expanding aircraft maintenance and repair capabilities, and promoting innovation in modern aviation. The strategy aims to enhance the region’s overall competitiveness. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Thailand is committed to working closely with all airlines, organizations, and partner countries to support the sustainable, secure, and stable growth of the aviation industry.
Bangkok Airways President Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, who serves as host of the 69th AAPA Assembly, expressed his pride in Thailand being selected as this year’s venue. He noted that the assembly serves as an essential platform for aviation leaders across the region to exchange views and collectively determine the industry’s future direction.
He observed that the global aviation sector is currently in a critical phase of recovery and adaptation following recent disruptions. He stated that this year’s assembly provides a timely opportunity to strengthen the long-term growth, sustainability, and preparedness of the Asia-Pacific aviation industry as it navigates ongoing challenges.
