Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul returns from ASEAN and APEC summits with strengthened trade deals, expanded agricultural exports, and new commitments on food security, digital development, and cross-border crime prevention.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has announced the outcome of Thailand’s engagements at the ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26-28, and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, from October 29 to November 1, 2025.

Over the course of the meetings, the Prime Minister held discussions with leaders from 15 countries, representatives from three international organizations, and senior executives from over 20 global corporations. He stated that the Thai delegation focused each discussion on areas where collaboration and investment would yield tangible mutual benefit. Upon returning to Thailand, dedicated teams will continue technical negotiations to turn these discussions into tangible economic outcomes.

Thailand emphasized its intention to position itself as a regional hub, prioritizing four key areas: food security, logistics and transportation connectivity, digital and technological development, and the green economy. These priorities aim to strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness, advance modernization, and ensure resilience in the evolving global landscape.

During the ASEAN and APEC engagements, Thailand expanded market access for Thai rice and agricultural products, negotiated an increase in the quota for legal Thai labor in South Korea, and requested improvements to entry procedures for Thai tourists. Thailand also strengthened cooperation with Canada across multiple sectors.

Bilateral discussions with several countries yielded meaningful progress in strengthening cooperation. In talks with Brunei, both sides agreed to build on existing collaboration in halal food security, wellness tourism, agricultural exports, and trade and investment. The Prime Minister also emphasized Thailand’s commitment to playing a leading role in addressing transnational crime, noting that Thailand’s proposal to convene an international conference on cross-border crime prevention was widely supported by participating economies.

Anutin further affirmed that all agreements reached—whether relating to Thailand–Cambodia peace dialogue, trade cooperation frameworks, or memorandums on critical mineral development—have been undertaken with Thailand’s national interest as the top priority and in strict accordance with Thai law.

The Prime Minister also noted progress in discussions with the United States and China. Following several engagements with U.S. President Donald J. Trump to reinforce confidence in tariff negotiations, he held a bilateral meeting with the President of China, during which China agreed to increase its quota for Thai rice imports by an additional 500,000 tons.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the dedication and preparedness of the Thai delegation, noting that the outcomes of this mission are expected to improve the well-being of the Thai people by increasing household income and strengthening stability and security in both the short and long term.
