Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun says Thailand’s proactive economic diplomacy at the ASEAN and APEC summits sparked strong international interest, with several countries requesting talks after hearing about the Quick Big Win policy.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun hailed Thailand’s return to the global stage following the ASEAN and APEC summits, saying multiple nations have lined up to hold bilateral talks after being impressed by Thailand’s “Quick Big Win” economic policy and ambition to become a global Food Security Hub.

Suphajee said the summits marked a turning point for Thailand’s global engagement, as shifting geopolitical and economic power structures prompted countries to seek new trade partners and strengthen alliances. “Thailand is no longer selling just rice, rubber, or cassava — we aim to be the world’s Food Security Hub,” she said. “That message resonated strongly and caught the attention of many governments.”

During the meetings, the Commerce Ministry held direct bilateral discussions with five countries at the ministerial level, exploring new trade opportunities and market expansion strategies. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with leaders from 12 nations and key global institutions including the World Bank, WTO, and IMF to discuss cooperation on shared economic goals.

Thailand also used the ASEAN platform to push forward its role as chair of the Digital Economy Framework — an initiative to establish a regional system for cross-border digital data exchange. “If we succeed, ASEAN will become the first region in the world to implement such a framework,” Suphajee noted, adding that detailed discussions are scheduled for November, with an agreement expected by April.

This year’s ASEAN Summit focused on accessibility and sustainability, while APEC centered on connectivity, innovation, and prosperity. Suphajee said Thailand’s Quick Big Win strategy — emphasizing short-term stimulus, long-term foundations, and broad-based growth — drew significant interest. “After my remarks on Thailand’s economic direction, numerous countries requested bilateral or semi-formal talks,” she said. “It’s a very positive sign that Thailand has regained international confidence and visibility in global trade.” (TNA)
