BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has issued a warning about a growing wave of online scams, including a fake investment promotion falsely claiming to offer SET50 “gold stock” dividends through a Facebook page called Gold M0dern ShareHolders. The ministry cautioned that such fraudulent schemes could result in financial losses and theft of personal information.
According to Ms. Suchada Sang Taensap, spokesperson for MDES, the Anti-Fake News Center Thailand (AFNC) reviewed more than one million online messages between October 24–30. Of these, 809 messages required verification, with most originating from social media monitoring. Among 186 cases under review, 63 were confirmed false, with online crime-related scams ranking as the top concern among the public.
The most widely circulated fake news included:
- “Hua Seng Heng offers SET50 stock investment with daily dividends of 532–5,300 baht through the Gold M0dern ShareHolders page.”
- “PTT celebrates its 45th anniversary by giving away 200-baht free fuel coupons.”
- “Krungthai Bank launches a Line group offering stock advice.”
- “Online driver’s license registration through the DLT page without visiting in person.”
- “Legal online driver’s license renewal via the page ‘All License Renewal Services.’”
MDES confirmed that the top-ranked case involving Hua Seng Heng and SET50 stock dividends is entirely false. After verification with the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), officials confirmed that the SET has no connection to the page “Gold M0dern ShareHolders” and has not authorized any online platform to sell SET50 stocks. The fraudulent page was found to be misusing the SET name and logo to deceive users.
Ms. Suchada urged the public to remain cautious about online investment invitations using names of credible institutions or government agencies. “These scams often appear trustworthy, but they aim to steal money and personal data from victims. Always verify information with official sources before engaging or sharing,” she said.
For further verification or inquiries, the public can contact the SET Contact Center at 0-2009-9999 or visit official websites of the relevant organizations. (TNA)
