BANGKOK, Thailand – Lt Gen Norathip Poinok, Commander of the 4th Army Area and Director of the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, has welcomed world-renowned Islamic spiritual leader Habib Umar Muhammad Salem bin Hafiz of Yemen during his official visit to Thailand as a guest of the National Security Council. The reception took place recently at the Al Meroz Hotel in Bangkok, with senior representatives from the National Security Council, the Peace Dialogue Panel for the Southern Border Provinces, and other government agencies in attendance.

Habib Umar bin Hafiz, the 33rd-generation direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, is recognized as one of the most respected Islamic scholars in the world. His visit highlights Thailand’s ongoing engagement with the global Muslim community through dialogue, education, and interfaith cooperation.

During his time in Bangkok, Habib Umar met with Aroon Boonchom, the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand, at the Sheikhul Islam Office. The meeting, joined by senior Thai Islamic scholars and religious leaders, focused on enhancing ties between Thailand’s Muslim community and international Islamic institutions.

Following his engagements in the capital, Habib Umar and his delegation began their visit to Thailand’s southern border provinces on October 21, with programs running through October 23. The visit includes community meetings and discussions promoting authentic Islamic teachings and the role of religion in advancing peace and understanding.

Authorities believe the visit will leave a lasting impact on the southern region by deepening awareness of Islam’s values of compassion and coexistence. The presence of such a prominent spiritual leader is expected to inspire unity, boost social harmony, and promote mutual respect among communities across southern Thailand. (NNT)
