The First Army Region reports calm along the Thai–Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo, with evacuation drills, temporary shelters for 4,200 residents, checkpoints, and ongoing mine clearance.

SA KAEO, Thailand – The First Army Region has provided an update on the Thai–Cambodian border situation in Sa Kaeo Province, where operations are continuing to ensure safety and maintain order. Authorities have conducted evacuation drills for residents in four border districts and set up 10 temporary shelters that can accommodate around 4,200 people. Checkpoints have also been arranged to facilitate travel and ensure public safety as locals and media continue visiting Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo to show support for officers on duty.

Last night, the army broadcast the documentary “Camp 511” along the border — a film recounting Thailand’s past humanitarian role in helping Cambodian refugees. The activity formed part of psychological operations aimed at fostering understanding and countering misinformation from across the border. Meanwhile, movements were observed on the Cambodian side, including gatherings of residents and soldiers near Ban Jok Chey and Ban Prey Chan, where some vulnerable civilians were reportedly used as human shields to pressure Thai forces. Despite these developments, the overall situation remains calm and under control.

Meanwhile, the Burapha Task Force and the Humanitarian Mine Action Center continue clearance operations in the Ban Nong Ya Kaeo area. From October 10–13, teams discovered seven anti-personnel mines—six PMN and one MN79, all confirmed to be old. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the area is completely safe and fully within Thailand’s jurisdiction.

First Army Area Commander Lt Gen Worayos Luangsuwan has personally visited the area to monitor progress, boost troop morale, and coordinate with the Royal Thai Police and other agencies. He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to defending national sovereignty and ensuring peace and safety for all border communities. (NNT)
