BURIRAM, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led his delegation to the Chong Sai Taku crossing in Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province. There, he and his team received a detailed briefing on the situation before walking around the checkpoint area and presenting food supplies to soldiers stationed nearby.
The Prime Minister then visited to the “Scorpion” Operation Base of the 2604th Ranger Company under the Suranaree Task Force, where he delivered food supplies and offered encouragement to soldiers in the area. He later briefed reporters on the security infrastructure along the Thai–Cambodian border and took them to inspect sections of the barbed-wire fence installed in the area.
As for claims that no fence had been built, the Prime Minister clarified that multiple layers of concertina wire have already been installed in key areas, forming an effective barrier against unauthorized crossings, with soldiers stationed along the border to ensure security. He explained that the type of construction depends on both the terrain and the area’s strategic significance, with the military assessing and deciding the most suitable form of barrier.
Before concluding his visit, the Prime Minister met with local residents and reassured them that the checkpoint would remain closed for the time being. He encouraged them to wait for government compensation payments scheduled for October 6. Mr. Anutin also offered words of encouragement to the troops, wishing them safety and reaffirming the government’s commitment to their welfare and continued support. (NNT)
