Prime Minister Anutin stressed that all dealings with Cambodia must go strictly through official channels, with broader relations on hold until conditions are met.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has convened a meeting with Defence Minister Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit and Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow to review national security matters, a discussion he described as sensitive and not suitable for public disclosure. He confirmed, however, that the National Security Council will hold a session on October 2 to address ongoing security concerns.

Anutin commended Sihasak’s role at the recent United Nations General Assembly, where he said Thailand’s agenda was well received by the international community. The Premier credited Sihasak with defending the country’s dignity and safeguarding the interests of the Thai people before returning promptly to Parliament for the government’s policy debate.

The Prime Minister affirmed he has full confidence in Sihasak’s ability to manage Thailand’s foreign relations, adding that the country will not be placed at a disadvantage in its dealings with Cambodia under his stewardship. He made clear that all exchanges with Cambodia must take place strictly through official state channels.

According to Anutin, military-to-military communication should remain the responsibility of the armed forces, while diplomatic relations must be managed exclusively through established diplomatic pathways. For now, he said, broader bilateral relations with Cambodia should remain suspended as the matter rests at the state level.

He added that while sentiments of brotherhood with Cambodia endure, Thailand’s approach must be guided by national interests. Relations can move forward only once all conditions are fully accepted. Until then, Thailand will present its stance clearly and without ambiguity. (NNT)
