BANGKOK, Thailand – The male parent caught on video verbally abusing police officers and toppling a police motorcycle has been sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for one year, along with fines totaling 22,000 baht.
The incident occurred on Samsen Road in front of St. Gabriel’s College, when the man became enraged after police from Samsen Police Station locked the wheel of his car, which he had parked to drop off his child for about five minutes during heavy traffic.
Pol Col Chaiwut Chai-olan, superintendent of Samsen Police Station, confirmed that the officer on duty showed patience and professionalism during the confrontation. The parent was initially fined under the Land Traffic Act for obstructing traffic and failing to display a tax sticker. He was later prosecuted for insulting an officer and damaging government property. The court handed down a two-year prison sentence, suspended for one year, a fine of 12,000 baht, and ordered 10,000 baht compensation for damage to official property.
Authorities urged motorists to consider alternate routes during peak hours but noted that congestion may ease soon as schools enter the semester break.
Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Kornchai Khlaiklueng, whose own child also attends the school, remarked that even he fears being ticketed when dropping off his child. He dismissed speculation about privileged treatment, saying: “There are no big shots here, only small ones.” (TNA)
